Usually, there are slots where the axle mounts to allow you to loosen the axle and move it to tighten the chain. In some cases there are even adjusters on the axle to help hold the adjustments. But, before you tighten the chain, check for wear on the sprocket teeth. A good tooth will be about the same shape on both the front (toward the front of the scooter) as on the back side. But if the tooth has something of a hook shape, then the sprockets are worn and you'll not be able to get a good adjustment. You'll need to replace them if you want to keep riding as they will wear a new chain out too fast. Also check the chain before you tighten it. If you can push on it sideways between the sprockets and it bends far enough to go beyond the sprocket's thickness, your chain's worn out and needs replaced. If you don't have many miles on the scooter, I would think that maybe you haven't kept the chain properly lubricated. Any good auto parts store should carry a foaming chain lube for motorcycles and scooters. Budd

1. Loosen the rear axle, and pull rear wheel so the chain tightens, tightening the chain, but not too tight. Tighten the axle back down and the axle bolts will keep the chain tight. 2. If your scooter has a chain tension adjuster, then you will be able to adjust the chain's slack with the adjuster. Usually, an adjuster will be plastic and the chain will rub up against this adjuster to take up the slack. If your chain is loose, then you will need to loosen the chain tension adjuster, and tighten it back down after you have set the appropriate chain slack. A good rule of thumb regarding chain slack, is about 1/ 2 " of play side to side. -Too loose and you will slip the chain. -Too tight and the parts will wear out quicker and the scooter will not perform 100% -Just right (1/ 2 " slack) will keep you on the road, and will be much easier on parts.
